Vegas Is Not all Resorts and Casinos

A great thing about visiting Las Vegas is its close proximity to some of the greatest natural and man-made attractions one could see, that is besides the great vacation you could experience even if you never left the most famous Strip in the world.

However; for those who do want to take in other sites & experiences without venturing too far off the Strip there are many half day trips to take in, that you can see and still be back in time to see a beautiful sunset or enjoy an evening of stargazing.

Valley of Fire State Park is 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone, containing ancient petrified trees & petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years.

Hoover Dam constructed between 1931 and 1936 involved thousands of workers and cost over 100 lives.  A concrete structure of this magnitude had never been built up to this point and many of the engineering techniques had never been proven.  However today the dam’s generators provide power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona & California and is a major tourist attraction to nearly a million people annually.

Death Valley is on record as being the hottest & driest place on earth and out of these most harsh conditions, is home to many different forms of life who have adapted to desert living and some have even thrived.  Death Valley is the largest national park south of Alaska, with some of the most amazing desert landscapes anywhere in the world.

Grand Canyon National Park is one of the seven natural wonders of the world stretching an impressive 227 miles and boasting a majestic 10 mile width.  The Hopi Indian tribe consider the Grand Canyon the gateway to the afterlife and for over 4000 years the thousands of caverns in the canyon have been home to various tribes.

Zion National Park is a thing of beauty with water falls, red cliffs, river flows, hanging gardens in a beautiful landscape.  Some of the more popular outdoor activities to do are horseback riding, hiking, rock climbing & canyoneering or for a more relaxed way to enjoy the park, one can take a scenic sightseeing drive.

Red Rock National Park can be seen by taking a 13 mile scenic drive or if you want a true western adventure, can be experienced in a 2 hour horseback ride with a cowboy guide.  There are beautiful hues in the mountains to see including red sanstone cliffs, Native American petroglyphs and a congregation of dinosaur foot tracks.

Other popular things to do in Vegas are a wine tasting tour with lunch in Pahrump Nevada, kayaking the Colorado river in beautiful emerald green waters with an opportunity to see desert big horn sheep, bald eagles, coyotes, mountain lions, beavers, rabbits and striped bass or taking a magical hot air balloon ride over the Spring Mountain Range and getting a birds-eye view of the entire Las Vegas Valley.

So the next time you book your visit to Vegas remember if you need a change of pace from the restaurants, shows, casinos & nightlife, there are plenty of memorable experiences to take in and be back in time for supper.

Don’t Ever Bet Against Vegas

I have lived in Las Vegas since 2006 and prior to that had been coming to Vegas for several decades.

I can say with a lot of confidence that Vegas will come back strong, it is a City that gets knocked down dusts itself off (reinvents itself ) and gets back on its feet.

I have heard stories about the time it came back after being shut down for 12 hours, after the world tragically heard President John F. Kennedy was assasinated.  The only time other than the Pandemic of 2020, that Vegas was ever shut down.

We went through the 80’s when Vegas had to reinvent itself (went corporate), we came back after almost being extinguished in 2007 from the recession and we are showing great promise today of making a nice come back after most of our nations population, gets vaccinated and feels comfortable to travel again.

What appeals to the tourists who visit Vegas is the history, the stories, the electrifying entertainment and the chance to go home with today’s equivalent of like many did in the Gold & Silver mines in Virginia City Nevada in the 1840’s.

The love of this beautiful City if you are a resident is the fact we are tucked in a surrounding of mountains protecting us from many natural disasters, the weather is the closest to California anywhere in the Country, the convenience of shops being opened to everyones different schedule and the endless appeal to elite business men such as Mark Davis (Las Vegas Raiders), Elon Musk (New Underground Tunnels), Richard Branson (Virgin Hotels), Derek Stevens (Circa Resort) and William Foley (Las Vegas Golden Knights) who trust and feel Las Vegas is worth investing billions into.

The residents of Las Vegas, Nevada are grateful for this steady influx of forward thinkers, movers & shakers and with tourists once again showing their great faith in Las Vegas shining brighter than ever.
